Gearbox
Almost exclusively Formula Ford cars use a 4 speed Hewland racing gearbox transaxle. Classic Formula fords use primarily the MK 8 & 9 boxes. These have no limited slip differentials but all the gear ratios are interchangeable, for different circuits around the country. Costs
Fact: There is not a cheap form of motor racing! However Classic Formula Ford is the closest you will get. A good car will cost between £3500 - £7000, with running costs of between £3000 - £7000 a year, dependent upon your level of technical knowledge, the spare time you have and the number of races you do.

If you are competing for the first time you will need £1000 for good safety equipment and the costs associated with getting a licence.
